Movie “A beautiful mind” needs revision??
Don’t go on this above subject line. It is just like Indian news channel’s breaking news. For example “Big’B ko thand lagi (Eng – Big’B feeling cold)”. Actually I could not find any good subject line, so think like the Indian media headlines… Subject line does not matter…This blog about the over-simplified representation of the Nash Equilibirium in the movie “A Beautiful Mind”…
In the movie A Beautiful Mind, mathematical genius John Nash( Actor Russel Crowe) trying to define competitive behavior to the simple terms of sexual opportunity. Nash along with other Princeton graduate attracted by a beautiful blonde surrounded by other pretty girls.
“Recall the lessons of Adam Smith, father of modern economics,” says one of Nash’s cohorts. “Individual ambition serves the common good. Every man for himself!”
With in a single strike in his brain, Nash disagrees.
“Adam Smith needs revision,” he says. “If we all go for the blonde, we block each other. So then we go for her friends, but they will all give us the cold shoulder because nobody likes to be second choice. But what if no one goes for the blonde? We don’t get in each other’s way, and we don’t insult the other girls. That’s the only way we win.”
Suddenly more excited about economic theory than sexual opportunity, Nash lapses into an intellectual reverie that summarizes his Nobel Prize-winning thesis. “Adam Smith said the best result comes from everyone in the group doing what’s best for himself. Incomplete! Incomplete! Because the best result will come from everyone in the group doing what’s best for himself and the group. Adam Smith was wrong!”
Did it really happen that way? Or it was just a scriptwriter’s ‘have a go’ version. Taking the Individuality in Economics Theories Many Economist having different views. Please have a look on Both “Nash Equilibrium” and Edam Smith’s Theory. Give your own views!!!
